Zap's Wrap August
all things nashville startups
hi friends,
a friend told me that i should share this newsletter more often, but in a more casual way. i admit, i haven’t been getting enough of these out the door.
my new plan- write one every week. but instead of worrying about what’s big or newsworthy, im going to riff about the stuff that i think is cool.
startup stuff that’s cool:
i recently met grace hanson. she’s formerly a 5x chief claims officer who is now working on a startup to bring AI to the claims space. they’re still in stealth mode, but it’s definitely one i plan on watching.
i learned that 25M has more than just a healthcare venture studio, they have a supply chain one too and brooke mercy is spinning out the startup offload, which is tech for overweight freight. we are getting more logistics startups here, joining tyler sellers with qualle, kevin valsi with opentrack, and ryan soskin with goodship.
aimply.io, an ai-personalized newsletter, reached over 11k subscribers. pretty sick watching someone who just graduated like brock anderson make this happen.
adam jaggers is on the hunt for a sales cofounder for his proptech startup rental-guard. feels like a great opportunity for someone who knows how to sell to property managers.
what i’m up to:
last week i attended the bitcoin conference. i was stoked to go and was blown away to see 25k people there and big name speakers. at the same time, i was frustrated feeling like bitcoin has gone from decentralized currency for the greater good into being digitalized gold that can never be sold. bitcoin is def better than gold, BUT i hope it lives up to its intent of satoshi in becoming digital currency without financial institutions. in the meantime, i will still allocate 5% toward bitcoin lol.
i have over 120 engineers signed up to hear from 12 startups about what they’re building next week (and i literally can’t fit any more lol). slowly but surely, the engineering community feels like it’s becoming more and more interested in startups. we are also having more startups get funding to hire top talent. im hoping to expand on this event and host an ai agent hackathon sometime in october to get more people building cool shit.
ive moved offices! im now working in the gulch, right next to cummins station. some exciting projects are in the works in this new space that i can’t wait to share soon (:
im 2 months into e-bicycle commuting every day and it’s the best thing i ever did! it’s become such a habit that i cant imagine going back to driving.
to the moon 🚀
