all things nashville startups

hi friends,

Couple of exciting updates from last week:

  • I invested in another startup- Landian. This makes #11! I’ve been super curious about the recent National Association of Realtors settlement and how there is any opportunity to change how we buy houses and pay realtors. There are a lot of players in this space, but I am excited about what the founder Bryce is working on.

  • I helped a local startup hire a mid-level engineer! That’s hire #24 this year. What’s cool about this- I met the engineer at an event I host for startups, they reached out saying they really wanted to work at one, and boom, 3 weeks later they have a new job! If you are a software engineer who really, really wants to work at a startup HMU.

I feel like I have a lot of things in progress right now, pieces are moving, and I’m looking forward to getting some deals (of all types) done!!!

Startup stuff that’s cool:

  • Last week I met Emma and Dallas, the cofounders of Folx Table. They are the ‘sit-down social network,’ a platform that connects young people to social experiences. I believe there is going to be a big winner in the space of ‘in real life social experiences’ and am excited to see where they take things. They just launched their app a couple weeks ago and have 1,000 people using it and have built a pretty recognizable brand in Nashville for women my age.

  • Riley had a customer so excited about his product that they jumped on stage, you can watch the video here. They help movers quote leads the right price at ComeHome ai. They are raising a family and friends round and looking for a technical cofounder.

  • I caught up with Diego who’s unlocking the productivity of the Latino community through loaning money to people who don’t necessarily have a social security number at Nuestro. It’s really freakin’ hard to build a business that both has tech and makes loans and Diego is in the thick of things!!!

  • I ran into Cooper the founder of SoBet grabbing coffee with one of his other investors this morning at Fido!! They continue to crush it- q3 was their highest peforming + producing quarter yet. They now have over 7,000 paid users!

  • I saw on LinkedIn that Bugle just raised from InvestTN (woohoo Ryan) and Daily Crunch Snacks is now in Whole Foods nationwide.

Events coming up:

  • Last reminder that this Wednesday at 4pm is the Program Showcase at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center. This is a first time event where companies from across programs will be sharing about their business and pitching for investments and customers. Great way to meet and support the early entrepreneurs in town! I will be MCing so please come out and check it out!

  • I’m hosting an event exclusively for leaders in product in early December. If you are a PM, let me know so I can add you to the list.

Personal stuff:

I LOVE Halloween and costumes. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time to get to New Orleans to celebrate in the city that does costumes best. We went as Papa Smurf and Smurfette night 1 and Hulk Hogan and generic female wrestler (lol) night 2.

Also ate at the Elysian Bar, The Bacchanal, The Delachaise, Paladar 511, Frankie and Johnnies, The Horn, Beach Bum Berry’s, and Aye Bakehouse. 10/10 for every single one.

Fun fact- I invested in the startup Elysian which is named after a street in New Orleans (:

to the moon,
